As in many other villages in Spain, the outbreak of the civil war in 1936 shattered the tranquil life of people from Castejón del Puente. Its proximity to Catalunya and its position between Barbastro and Monzón ensured that the village was a key element in the development of the conflict within the region.

The hill known locally as El Tozal de las Aguaderas still preserves an interesting collection of machine gun posts and a network of trenches that stretch the full length of the mountain range.

The remains of an old airfield in the direction of El Saso confirm the area’s strategic importance during the civil war.
