The only essential tool for astronomical observation is your eyes, but a little help to navigate the night sky can be very beneficial, especially for beginners.

Night vision requires acclimatization, mainly by eliminating white and bright lights. Use a red-light headlamp, and if using a mobile app, switch to night mode. Maximum acuity is reached after about twenty minutes.

Find a spot far from light pollution for an excellent night sky viewing experience. In Guara Somontano, we propose several ideal observation points scattered throughout the territory. .

Periods near the full moon or close to streetlights will make many stars invisible. Anticipate if there will be medium or high clouds obstructing key constellations.

Nights are usually cold, so don’t forget warm clothing. A hammock or reclining chair will make the observation much more comfortable.

Sometimes, the stellar crowding can make orientation difficult. Many mobile apps facilitate observation (you can also download a planisphere) to enjoy a surprising show: our Guara Somontano sky.
