The so called Tozás dás Forcas was the place where the King of Alquézar and his court were executed at the gallows at the hands of the Isarre family.
The story tells of two brothers, native to Abiego, whose parents had been killed by the Moors for refusing to collaborate with them.
This act of vengeance gave rise to the nickname given to people from Abiego, Matamoros or “Moor slayers” as well as to the design of the Isarre family crest. Of noble lineage and originating from Abiego, the family’s crest shows the heads of three Moors with their turbans.
